Toronto, May 30, 2013 – The new French Catholic elementary school will be under the patronage of Saint Michael the Archangel when it opens in Toronto East next September. The name was adopted during a regular session of the Board last May 29. The school, located at 29 Meadowvale Road, will house up to 250 students from kindergarten to grade 6.
« École élémentaire catholique Saint-Michel will be a beacon of French Catholic education in Toronto, » stated Nathalie Dufour-Séguin, CSDCSS Chair and school trustee for the Toronto North Region. « Located on an enchanting site, the new school will be both spacious and modern. It will meet the needs of Francophone families of the area who will feel at home there. »
« École élémentaire catholique Saint-Michel will promote greater integration of digital technology to assist student learning, » explained Réjean Sirois, Director of Education. « This initiative has already raised the enthusiasm of the teachers who will receive ongoing pedagogical support to that end and will therefore be at the cutting edge of teaching in the 21st Century. Finally, I am happy that the name chosen shows our affiliation to the Archdiocese of Toronto and its mother church, that also has Saint Michael as its patron saint. »
« I am happy that our school has been dedicated to Saint Michael, » said André Savard, Principal of the school. « Saint Michael the Archangel accompanied various important people in biblical history. Saint Michael will be there for all the students and the staff of our school. He will be both a protector and a friend who will inspire respect and justice in building a better world. Our new school will provide a welcoming environment that will allow everyone to grow and develop their talents. »
The school will house a daycare centre on the premises. For more details on the new school and the daycare centre and to register a child: 416-393-5421 or visit http://smt.csdccs.edu.on.ca.
